Lumecca – IPL

Lumecca Intense Pulse Light in Green Bay, WI

Lumecca Intense Pulse Light (IPL) by Inmode provides a superior, long-lasting solution to improve skin complexion, reduce skin irregularities, and reveal younger-looking skin. Lumecca’s IPL Photofacial effectively treats sun damage such as dark spots and vascular lesions. After just one use, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin.

Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photo facial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment. Lumecca emits three times more energy than other photofacial treatments on the market, which renders beautiful results in fewer treatments. Its strong sapphire cooling tip helps protect the skin and ensures maximum safety and comfort.

What are the benefits?

  • Age spots (red/brown pigmentations)
  • Sun damage

What areas can be treated?
Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands, and arms.

What steps must be taken before the procedure?
Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.

What should I expect during and after my treatment?
We start by applying a cool gel to your skin and providing you with protective eyewear. Then, we pass the Lumecca handheld device over your skin, applying wavelengths of IPL into the deeper layers. During treatment, there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca that feels like a light elastic sensation.

Redness and slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots since these cells absorb the light and are broken into tiny particles and destroyed; in the week afterward, the body then flushes them away naturally and pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone.

After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

How many sessions are required?
An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings.

How quickly will I see results?
Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photo facial sessions will improve the final result.

For vascular treatments such as spider or leg veins, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.

Are there any side effects?
Most patients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment.

Lumecca pre-treatment instructions:

  • Avoid any tanning for 6 weeks prior to treatment. This includes any form of self-tanners.
  • Do not use any retinol products (or products containing tretinoin) or exfoliants on the area to be treated for one week. Avoid Accutane (or isotretinoin products) for 6 months prior.
  • Let your skin practitioner know if you have a history of hyperpigmentation.
  • Photosensitizing medications including doxycycline and minocycline should be discontinued three days prior to the treatment.
  • Anticipate a social “downtime” of 2-3 days before any redness, swelling and sloughing of the sunspots has subsided.
  • Avoid retinol and other irritant topical agents (Benzoyl peroxide, AHAs, BHAs) for 4 days prior to treatment.
  • If applicable, please come clean-shaven in the areas to be treated (this usually means the face and neck).

Lumecca post-care instructions:

  • You may have a mild sunburn (burning) sensation following the treatment that is usually gone within a few hours. Skin redness is normal and may last a few days.
  • There may be a slight amount of swelling.
  • Crusting or blistering is uncommon and not serious. Pigmented areas may begin to flake after a few days.
  • Cold compresses may be useful for the first 24 hours.
  • Your skin will be fragile for 2-3 days. Use gentle cleansers, do not rub the skin, and avoid hot water during this time.
  • Do not use any retinoids, tretinoins, alpha or beta hydroxy products, vitamin C products, scrub, exfoliate, or have chemical peels performed on the areas treated area for one week.
  • Makeup can be applied immediately if the skin is not broken. We recommend mineral based makeup.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks after. You should apply a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with at least SPF30, AT ALL TIMES when you will be outside. Use a physical sunscreen (Zinc/Titanium Dioxide) daily. Reapply often. In addition to reducing your future risk of skin cancer, sunscreens also reduce wrinkles and slow the aging process.
  • Avoid excessive heat or friction to the treated area (heavy exercise, saunas).
  • Sun spots and age spots will DARKEN with the treatments BEFORE they begin to respond and resolve. This is expected and a normal part of the process. Do not pick, scrub and exfoliate these spots. Allow them to shed on their own.
